Recently, i have had an explosion of yellowish-light green algae all over the glass of my tank and everything in it. My new Deresa clam was a perfect white when i got it- now its a scummy grey-green. :(
Any idea what's going on?
Pics can be obtained if you think it will help.

Thanks!

Is this a fairly new tank? If so, algae growth is to be expected particularly in the beginning. In order to suppress it, have a good population of herbivores(particularly snails), maintain good water quality with a decent skimmer, and use RO water to replace evaporation....

Nope... its been up for close to a year now. The main change has been the addition of a 250Watt MH light. Think that could be the culprit? Thats what i have assumed but I wanted to hear some opinions.

Well if you put the light in and the algae followed then yes, I guess you could say that it's the culprit. But the root problem is nutrients in the water that apparently wasn't an issue with lower light. This stuff is still the cure:
a good population of herbivores(particularly snails), maintain good water quality with a decent skimmer, and use RO water to replace evaporation
