If I am doing frequent water changes with RO/DI do I still need to use a UV Sterilizer? :?: :?: :?: :?:

Thanks!

A UV sterilizer is an optional equipment. Some people use it religious, others choose not use it at all. UV sterilizers are intended to kill any water-borne organisms and really don't do the same thing as water changes. It's not a filter or nutrient removal mechanism; it's simply a way to zap little things in water (algae spores, diseases, bacteria, etc.).

A protein skimmer, on the other hand, is highly recommended :)

I use a UV made by Aqua ultraviolet on my discus tank. It makes maintence easier on this tank. I don't use them on any of my 5 saltwater tanks. I just feel it's not needed on these.

I liked to run my UV in my water mixing container and let it cycle water through for a few days before I used that water for a water change.

Do you use RO, or is your tap water really bad? Just wondering.

I am a big proponent of UV sterilizers because not only do they kill parasites but also free flowing algae in the water (spores) I have always and will always run one on my reef tank with excellent results. And to ibid previous threads, an RO filter does not replace a UV or visa-versa, they serve two separate purposes.

RO water teamed with a UV seems like a winning combination.......it has always worked for me :)

I use a Air, Water and Ice 5 stage RO/DI.

I use RO here, although it doesn't really filter that much. We are blessed with very pure mountain water here. When we lived on the coast, well that was a whole other story. Interesting to hear how others are doing it.
