THe dark rocks in the back of my tank are lava rocks as seen in the pics. Today I pulled most of them and was looking for a alternative. I cannot find tufa or lace rock locally. Argonite is not available because it is not considered a landscaping rock. I have found large piles around road projects. The workers said take what I want, since I was in my mini van I assume they mean two or three.
I was wondering if coquina was ok in a reef tank. I used it in a cichlid tank I set up for my work. It is supposed to keep the PH up. I was going to drill some holes in them to make them more interesting. I searched and came up with a few posts on argonite usage but nothing on coquina.
Well I was going to post a picture of the coquina below but instead found this statement: Coquina rock is not intended for use in saltwater aquariums as it raises phosphate levels.
I'm going to post anyways to serve as a record for future searchers.
