Sounds like the live rock is curing (that's what's putting off the 'aroma'). All the stuff on the rock that was dead/dying is now dead and decaying. Don't worry, it's the right thing to happen. The tank is going through its cycle. Get a good protein skimmer and let it run its course. Water changes will help, but will not fix things.
