--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Im purchasing a 24" aquafuge today and need some help on deciding what macro's to get.

I got this refugium for 2 reasons:

1) To export nutrients to help aid in defeating nuisance algae.
2) To get my pod population in such abundance that my mandarin will swell up to the size of a whale

So what macro algae should I get? I have read in the past that some agae can die and release toxins back into the tank? Also remember reading about algae that changes sex. What should I be aware of and stay away from? Words of wisdom?

Also, How much live sand should I put in the aquafuge? Should I throw in some small LR chunks? Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks guys/gals!

I like chaetomorpha as a macro algae, not calcerous, won't go sexual on you, grows fast.

We used 6lbs of Kent Marine Biosediment and 4.25 lb live rock rubble in our 18 inch CPR aquafuge. I would do a little less rock if I had to do it over.
