30 Gallon Tall Lighting Suggestions

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a good hood and lighting for a 30-gallon tall reef aquarium (around 24" high.) Would this one work?

I want to keep mostly hardy corals and especially clown fish and Heteractis magnifica or Entacmaea quadricolor.

Hey TT,

A single 96W PC isn't sufficient to keep H.magnifica (an anemone found in shallow, surging waters) and isn't recommend for E.quadricolor either (although it's possible with supplemental feedings). It's enough for most soft corals, polyps, mushrooms, and LPS. A dual 96W fixture would serve you a lot better. That's what I recommend if you can afford it.

BTW, I recommend you stay away from H.magnificas. They are not good choices for new reefkeepers, requiring lots of light and circulation. More importantly, they require a lot of room; a H.magnifica grows well over 6' in diameter. I only recommend this species if you're setting up a species-specific tank (>60gallons) for it.
