Tap water TDS

I just received my Hanna TDS meter. I live in San Francisco. When i measured my tap water, the TDS read 44 consistently. Is this a correct reading, or do i ahve a defective meter? Anyone in SF have readings like mine?

Your water company is required to post water quality report and it should list the official TDS .

Besides getting the report from you local water company, another way is to test your meter on known standard.

44 ppm is pretty good. Here in the southland, we have hundreds of ppm.

Sounds OK, here in Seattle it's 35-40.

Yeah, the Pacific NorthWest has one of the softest water in the country. Half of the water in my city is from the Colorado River, and if the water get any harder, you can break your neck if you try to jump into a pool filled with tap water
