I have seen everyone elses tank's water is crystal clear but I cant seem to get my tank clear ever since I started it, Heck even my dealers tanks are clear. Is their anything to fix this problem. I already have corals in the tank and they are doing fine so I know their is nothing lethal in the water. Is there something I can by that will help me with this probelm or will it go away naturally? Could my filter not be doing its job? I just had a couple clownfish and an anemone expire in the tank so I thing what ever is in the water is lethal to the less hardy species. My SG is between 1.023 and 1.024, Ph 8.2, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 0.5. I do not think my water parameters is the problem. Please help my unexpeirienced mind with the one of the many problems that I have been having.

Well my first question is. What are you using as filtration. Do you have live rock and live sand. How many gallons is your aquarium. What is your phospherate level. If your water is yellowish then you need to get a filter that has GAC (Granulated Active Carbon) in it and make shure it does not have Phospherous in it, rinse the bag of Carbon and put it in a Power Filter. If you dont have one buy one there cheap. Only do this if the water is yellowish in color. If its not reply answering my questions and i will help you more.

Yeah; all those question fishdude asked need answering. Is your water whitish? Like cloudy? I think you might try a resin instead of carbon; carbon seems to take out more trace elements anyway. I use a resin pack called Purigen. As soon as I put that in the bottom of my power filter (the smallest amount you can buy already comes in a bag), the water cleared up really fast. Although has become a bit more cloudy again, it really made a difference. Use a larger amount that what might be suggested for your tank, and test for stuff like calcium and other elements in your tank both befor and after you put in a resin, just to see. Chances are that if your clowns and anemone just laid down and died, your water parameters arent correct in your observations, or theres something up in your water that came from the source (RO or purified drinking water versus tap). I could be that the treatment you use for tap isnt adequate (if you use tap); or that the treatment itself is more negative than beneficial, or youre using too much. I know that some treatments adversely lower the oxygen level in the tank...
Anywho, hope that helps!

The water is more cloudy than yellow or white. The Tank is 55 gallons. I use a canister filter that has activated carbon and a resin. I also have live rock and sand. The water that I put in the tank is RO/DI processed and then dechlorinated with stuff called Aqua Pure. The clowns that I had looked as though they had sufficated rather than lay down and die. They were also floting at the top of the tank. The anemone was fine and open then it just turned itself inside out and died on the sand bottom.

Kent Pro-Clear. Sadly it comes in a 236ml bottle (8oz) and you'll likely only need 10 ml or so. Not the best way to fix the problem, but it works. You still need to find the cause and solve it that way.

What are you using for a skimmer? My water was never totally clear when I was using my prizm skimmer and a few days after I switched over to a Euro Reef the water became crystal clear

Are you adding any buffers or calcium additives? These can cloud the water if not added properly. Other than that it sounds like a bacterial bloom.

I was using a protien skimmer at first but I was getting to much air bubbles so I shut it off. The Only Additives are Kalkawasser, Calcium, and Iodine
