I was wondering ....i have a 20 gallon reef tank just starting up today. I have 30 pounds of live rock in it....well not really. It's 30 pounds of rock i had to kill because it had glass anenomes on it. So i will have to add a piece or live rock to it so the little critters can spread to the other pieces of rock eventually. Anyways....i am also going to use a canister filter. IS this a workable setup for filtration? Will i always need the canister or can i just go with the LR for filtration down the road as long as i do frequent water changes? Thanks

if you are going for a small reef tank like that. YOu could easily get buy with just frequent water changes. However if you want to make it a little easier for yourself go with a protein skimmer as your form of filtration/nutrient export. Thats pretty much all you will need along with a power head or two for good water movement

But is it still ok to use them? I suppose if you have enough live rock, that act's as your filter right? still new to all of this
