Hi,

I found out that I need an RO filter.

1) Can you please tell me what features should it have?
2) Any good brands?
3) Any good place to buy it?
4) Does it need the DI part?

I have a 90gal that I'm setting up, and I'll replace 5 gallons twice a
week or 10 gallons a week.

Thanks,
Mihai

I use a 3 stage RO filter, meaning there are also carbon and sediment filters which will make your RO membrane last longer.

I'm using AquaFX, and its fine. I suspect the other brands are probably similar. You can get them from Premium Aquatics and Marine Depot for a good price. Some people may have an opinion about getting the stuff from Home Depot or something, I haven't tried that route.

You just have to choose the gallons per day you need. With a small setup you wouldn't need much probably. Also there are different membranes whether your tapwater is chlorinated or not.

I don't use the DI part, but it will make your water a bit better...

Thanks for the advice,
Any special features (auto-shut-off, or a storage container, mounting options or whatever) that I need to worry about?

Thanks again,
Mihai

A buddy of mine bought on from ebay of all places and was able to add a bunch of filters to it to keep him making RO water for several years. His one suggestion to me when I told him that I was thinking about buying one was to get the auto shut off valve. These things are very slow at producing water so unless you have several hours to wait around and fill a 5 gallon bucket go ahead and get the shutoff. I think he paid around $200 with all the filters and shipping when he bought his. I will direct him here to put in his 2cents when I talk to him again.
