scraping the glass

what do I use to get hard algae's and snails off the glass, I have this hard purple stuff growing on the glass that wont come off, and all the other types of algae is really tough to get off. any help?

The hard purple stuff is coralline algae and it's a good sign if you have lots of it. You can use a razor blade to scrape it off the glass.

If you want to avoid the risk of slicing yourself with a razor blade (don't run with that razor!), you can use a credit card. Hopefully, an expired credit card, but a functional one works just as well.

This works very well if you have an acrylic aquarium; the credit card will not scratch the acrylic nearly as much as a straight razor blade might.

Don't scrape the snails off of the glass, though!

I use a 4" wide scraper that takes a blade just like a long single edged razor. Works great.
