I know that everyone has different opinions on what works best for them but, I am starting a 58 Gal reef tank. What is the best heater on the market? I am thinking about (2) 150 watt visa-therm deluxe heaters placed horizonal in the bottom of my sump. What do you all have, and what do you recommend?

Thanks. :?

I think u can't go wrong with the vitatherm brand heater. they are great, reliable & not very expensive.

I had a WON titanium go south on me a couple months back.. - Just stopped heating for some reason. - Thankfully better than getting stuck on, but still not good to have happen in the middle of a Michigan winter..

I'd try another one though.. Mine was probably under-rated, I think it was a 50w in my 30g + 10g sump...

Could take it apart and fix it probably but not sure its worth the time / effort..

The best one is the most expencive one in the store.
( I have heard of many, many tank wipe out stories due to cheap heaters.)

Over the years, I've used quite a few Visitherm and Ebo Jager heaters in my freshwater and saltwater tanks, as well as in tanks I've setup for others. I can't seem to recall ever having one fail. I have broken a few through clumsiness or during moves though...

In my reef tanks, I've also used a Won Titanium (not the digital - the regular version) and a Tronic. No problems there either (but only used one of each and only for about 2 years, so not much experience with those).

Nice thing about the titanium ones is you don't have to worry about breaking/cracking them...

FWIW...

I use won pro titaniums.

Over time I have been shocked twice, by two popular brands of "quality" glass heaters that cracked or otherwise somehow got water in them.

Having a bunch of electrical stuff surrounded by a glass bulb and submerged in water that I like to put my hands in is not a good idea to me anymore.

I like the titanium heaters, for the above mentioned reasons. Due to reported unreliability of the wan thermostats, I put mine on a temp controller.
