This is my first post so bare with me and please do not laugh at my spelling. This could get long winded. I have just finished the second 50% water change on my 55gal in a week to replace my well water with R/O water, and I noticed 2 of my 25 snails standing high and puffing a light colored substance that resembles smoke as it driffs away in the water. (my water flow was lowered to hold down the splashing)
This is a 1 year old tank I bought 2 months ago (stocked with 4 fish, all died on the same day a month ago). The 2 month period has alot of history, and death, so I am a little gun shy at this point. Could anyone help me understand if this is standard behavior for these snails, or am I looking forward to more things dying?
I realize there is alot of information about my set-up not mentioned here, but if needed to answer my question I'll be more than happy to supply.

What you're seeing is snail porn ;) They're spawning and it's quite common for them to do so after a major environmental change (ala water change). I would do another water change if the water is super cloudy tomorrow. It is amazing how much sperm and eggs a tiny snail can broadcast.

Thanks for the reply. I suspected that by the way they were perched high, but I seem to have negative responce to water changes(pre R/O) and it will take some time to settle my nerves to reef keeping. In the first 2 months I have fallen in love with this hobby, and will succeed, but do not want to do it at the exspence of the livestock. Thanks again

... and try not to play too much mood music and cut back on their alcohol consumption. Did you offer them a smoke when they finished?

Seriously, I would take his as a welcome sign. My snails went nuts after the new halides went up. I had groups of them at all of the highest points in the tank. It was like a swingers club in there! I turned the lights off and let them have their privacy. Next morning, there were eggs all in the water column. Wait until the hermits start releasing larva! My clowns ate until they could hold no more! They sat about 2" away and just gobbled the little guys up. They missed plenty, but who knows if I will ever see them?
