sea ants on my live rock?

what are the little ant like things crawling around on my live rock? saw them with my flashlight last night (with the lights off in the tank)

assuming i don't need to worry about them

Are they translucent and without any particular color? Probably some kind of isopod or other *pods. Nothing to worry about, and a good sign that your tank is maturing.

why are they good, where did they come from?

They generally hitchhike on LR purchases. They are a good food source for alot of fish/inverts. They also are a good sign that your tank has matured.

They are called copepods or amphipods..they are a definite plus in a tank..they are a natural food source for many fish and inverts you will add to you tank in time...they, the copepods, will also help break down detritus and uneaten food.
