Does sump size matter ?

I have a 30 gal. tank, and have planned to use a 20 gal tank for my sump. However, I never bothered to measure the available space under my stand. I can make a 20 gal. fit, but a ten gallon tank would go much better (would have to alter aquarium support boards). So my question is a ten gallon sump too small for a thirty gallon reef ? Oh BTW the tank is already up and going.

The ten gallon would be fine. Bigger is better IMO because you get the increased system volume, but the ten will be fine.

The cheap glass 15h tanks have the same footprint as a 10, but is 18" tall. They cost around $20 at Petsmart or other chain stores. It would give you an extra safety margin.

10g should be fine-bigger if you go combo with refugium.
