I have my tank cycling for about a week now. I see the dark hair like aglae/seaweed on it. I am thinking about scrubbing them off tomorrow however I have pods growing all over the place now. Is it a good idea?

Let your cycle complete and then if the algae is still there scrub it. I would reduce your light cycle. Do you have any fish in the tank?? What kind of water are you using?

No fishs right now just whatever criters that came with the tank.

I got the salt water from LFS and using RO water to top off.

Just leave things alone for a few more weeks. Keep circulation up and your skimmer running wet. Wouldn't hurt to blow the rocks off periodically with a powerhead or turkey baster.

For the first 6 months or more you're going to see several forms of nuisance algae come and go, so just be patient. Also, there are lots of fish and inverts that will help keep some of these algaes under control.

Chris is right...the niusance comes and goes but over time is less a nuisance. Just let it cycle and you'll be fine...take your time and keep your hands off the tank as much as possible...let nature take its course..Trust me you'll reap the benefits of it... :D

i think scrubbing your rock is actually a good idea

it will lower your initial organics level surge, as you remove some of the nuisance algae that's on the rock now

just make sure you remove the rock to another container, first, and that you void any trapped air pockets when you place it back in the tank

i removed all of the rock from one of my tanks about 4x during the first year, and scrubbed it all down thoroughly

each time, thee was a noticeable 'jump' in the tanks overall performance/appearance

not too much fun for yer back, though
