I have a beautiful Turbinaria, with green/purple colouration, it was one of my earliest purchases, when i should have known better, but have had it for just under a year.

That aside, i have noticed there is some severe recession around it's base, the rest of the coral higher up is fine and polyps are fully extended all day, as they always have.

It's well out of the way of attacking corals, and the polyps shrivel and drop off as the recession reaches them.
I have a scrolling turbinaria, that is growing nicely, bright yellow, with no problems at all.

All my params are fine, i'm running carbon, 10% weekly water changes, i can't see or explain why it's happening

Am at work at the moment, so can't take a pic, will post one later today or tomorrow.

Does anyone know why this may be happening? :?

Thanks

Anton

It is common, since light don't reach the base, and it just recess up to certain level then stop.

However, just because it is common does not means it is normal. Unfortunately, unlike in wild environment with sun moves across the light cone over the course of day, most lighting setup is fixed at one spot.
