What would be the first items to purchase for a new 75 Gal tank, other than the tank itself?

I've already picked up an "Aqua C EV-180" protien skimmer.

I'm thinking a Mag7 pump (recomended for the EV-180)

What else?

3 Maxi-Jet 1200 Powerheads for circulation

300-400W total of Heaters, I use Ebo Jager, but most recomment the Titanium heaters

Lighting... Normal output flourescents for a fish only tank/VHO, PC or MH for reef

Substrate

Salt

Hydrometer (Refractometer is much more accurate if you can fork over the dough)

.................................I'm sure there's plenty other nit-pick stuff I left out

And MOST importantly..........

Thanks for the fast reply. I'm still in the steep learning curve, and want to have all my ducks in a row before I spend a bunch of money on something I doen't need.

Thanx again!

first off, i would drill that baby if it hasn't been done already and i would construct an internal overflow.
some prefer a hang on overflow but i think they are inferior.

also i would recommend plumbing a good pump(s) in the stand below as opposed to placing powerheads in the tank.. it just cleans it up a bit and it eliminates the worries of something like an anemone getting sucked up into an intake.
inline pumps are best but pricey in comparison to submersibles.
your gallonage and number of pumps would depend on the method of return to the tank.. for instance if you were to use SCWDs you would want to use lower capacity pumps as i think there is a maximum of 1200 gph or so. this is not enough flow for your tank if you want to keep "sps" type corals and really not enough for a DSB, IMO.
the SCWDs tend to really lower the volume passing through a pipe so i would do no less then what i got going here in my tank which is two GenX submersibles, one 4100l and one 6500l... these are aprox. capacities. i am currently only using one SCWD on the smaller pump but this isn't really sufficient for my needs. i may add a second or i may buy a seaswirl... i have yet to decide.

anyway, another method is seaswirls, they work great too. it is a more expensive option when considering two seaswirls at $100+ and a single or double SCWD at $40+ each... but i think you will find no debate in the opinion that two seaswirls are a better option for wavemaking performance.

yet another wave option is timers. having more than one pump and buying timers to operate them. there are some new and older style strips on the market.. i have never heard great things but then i have never tried them myself.

you need a sump... a rubbermaid tub is what i got going now.. it is a temporary thing until i have the time and money to build a cool one. there are some acrylic sumps on the market but it seems the majority come with a bunch of bio crap in them that is unnessary for a LR/DSB sustained tank.
also you could buy a tank to place under your 75g.. i think a 40g would fit nicely.

Thanks again. I agree that some sort of sump is also required for sure. The tank will be a "reef ready"setup. I have read a little on the "Sea Swirl", I had forgotten about them. Would the "Sea Swirl" be a better option than multiple powerheads?

Like I said , I'm brand new to this hobby.

Thanks again.

IMO, yes.

the multiple powerhead route is more prone to failure.
powerheads get gunk in them and as i stated earlier, some creatures, like anemones, often wander into them and get chopped up.
