larger the tank=more pods=more food=longevity of mandarin fish..another thing is do you have any other fish that will compete with a mandarin for food? if so avoid the mandarin...
That's useful info thanks. Right now I only have two clowns. They are picky eaters, only certain brine shrimp. The ones they don't like the pods fight over. I can even starve them and if the brine shrimp isn't the right one they won't eat it. I really would like to get the mandarin. I will have to choose the future fish wisely.
I just have to say, I got the new tank. It's 3'x2'x2', the guy was telling me it's 100g but I think it's 90g. I got a long way to go but I got the light already for it, a 400w 14K bulb. It came with live brown sand, I'm not sure if I'm going to change it or not.
In a large tank like that, you should have no problems keeping a mandarin assuming you wont have too much competion ie certain wrasses and you have tons of LR to cultivate the pod population...
The new tank came with a crab that is really dark red almost black. It has six legs I think and two big claws and looks real mean. Any idea what it is or good place for me to look? I didn't see it at a couple online retail shops.
I think i know what youre talking about, i see them sold from a time to time at Petco...one of the others on here should have a better idea of what it is, in the mean time i suggest keeping a vigilant eye on the little critter..I wanna say its more than likely harmless but you never know with crustaceans
