I have a 37 gal. tank (30" wide) w/ 40lbs of Live Rock, 4" DSB, an Aqua Clear Filter (w/ Carbon - should I take out the sponge?), a heater and 2 powerheads. The tank looks a little crowded w/ everything in there. Someone suggested a sump. I can only fit a 7 gal. container but I believe it's large enough to house the skimmer and the heater at least. What equipment would I need to purchase to have a sump? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

is it a glass or acrylic tank? if glass, you will need an overflow, as well as a return pump. can you fit a 10 gal aga in your stand? you could put additional LR in the sump for filtration. I have a 20 gal for my sump. i created a diy biological filter with lr in there, and it works pretty well. cost prohibitive to purchase a pre-made sump. just my .02, i know there is alot more info on this forum. do a search for sumps

Glass. Suggestions for a pump? The 7 gal. waste basket is the best I can do due to space limitations. If I get rid of the filter where would I run carbon? Thanks Bill

I would either go with a Quiet one or Dolphin/Tank master

I personally use a sedra as my return. its not a bad pump at all. really quiet as well.
As for your carbon, i really don't use it. people have said its been known to leach phosphates into the water. i have a rubbermaid container with my lr in it in the sump, covered by a micron filter pad. my drain empties right on top of it. are you sure you cant fit a ten gallon under there? 10 gal dimensions are: 20X10X12. Good luck, keep us posted!
