adding LR

I have a situation where I have a 60 gallon w/ some live sand and some that died off along w/ 10 lbs of semi-dead rock. Got the lighting system up and the temperature can range anywhere from 78-82.
Do you think it's okay just to dump all this LR into the tank? I'm concerned if the tank conditions are not good that it'll kill off all the expensive rock i've bought.
I've measured Nitrate, Nitrite, pH, etc and theyr'e fine. I currently do not have any invertibrates nor fish.
Assuming that I can just dump all the rock in there safely...how long do I have to wait before I can put in even invertibrates? Assuming the rocks are uncured and that I plan to cycle it thru my tank.

The 10 lbs of semi dead rock you are talking about...what does it look like? Is it LR that has been sitting out of water for a few days? Does it smell very bad?
As long as you don't have any inverts or fish in the tank, I think it's safe to add the 10 lbs...it should not hurt your existing LR. The tank will most likely cycle again...so you'll have to wait until nitrite and ammonia are back down to zero, and nitrate is at a safe level, before adding any lifestock.

It has a redish-brown color. One of the semi-dead rocks has a grayish color. If i'm not imaginging things, i see some green algae and some red coloring on the semi-dead so i'm hoping life will respawn.
Does it smell bad? eeks...not too sure. could've...forgot to check and it's already in my tank.I don't have any inverts or fish...well i got one "tester snail" to see how my tank is.
So when do you know that it will be fine to put in the new LR w/out it all dying on one shot?

Also, there's nothing wrong with getting into the habit now of doing regular water changes.
