My son is changing the tank in his bedroom from fresh water to salt. It is a 26 gallon bow front. We tried a Sealife System wet/dry filter system with a surge 3500 pump but the entire system is just to noise for his bedroom. Is there a very quiet filter system we can use on this tank? He wants to keep puffers in this tank.

I doubt you'll pull off multiple puffers in that tank. And even one of any of the ones I'm familiar with won't fly. But that doesnt' mean there aren't some that would, I'm jsut not familiar with them.

If you want multiple puffers in that size tanks, I'd recommend goinw with dwarf freshwater puffers, or maybe some of the smaller brackish ones.

Is the pump noise the problem, or the gurgling theough the wet/dry? If it's just the gurgling noise, I'd just pull the media, you won't really need it if you add live rock. With messy eaters like a puffer, a skimmer would be a big help too. You'd have to ask what the quieter small skimmer options are though, I'm not sure sound-wise.

Thanks for the hints. The big problem appears to tbe pump noise.

I don't knwo how the surge rates for niose, but there are some quite quiet pumps out there. If you're lookign aroudn for one, be aware taht some get much louder (and sometimes much quieter) depending on the pressure they are pumping against. In fact, if you can change that (rearrange plumbing or something), you may be able to quiet the existing pump.

Also, mounting it (assuming external pump) on a vibration reducing surface (rubber pad or the like) may help as well.
