i am just a newby so do not take my advice as golden. however, at the least you need to read my recent post just to see what can go wrong by adding "just baking soda"
I had read that, Sorry to hear about your problems. That is what got me to ask about it a little. I have some buffer that came with a red sea test kit but I wanted to look into baking soda so if I wanted to do it in the future I would be ready
Adding baking soda is a perfectly acceptable way of adding buffer to a tank. Just don't overdo it - you can add one teaspoon to your fresh water top off water making sure you mix it well before adding to the tank - wait a while and check alk level - I would not add more than one teaspoon per 25 gallons per day.
How do you think it would work to make a "slurry" of Baking soda, in a squeeze bottle? That way you can keep it arround for a while, and just shake it up when you need to add a bit. I figure that the squeeze bottle would be a convinient way of contoling dosage.
