Are there any other options for silencing my overflow box's drain? I don't have enough room for the Durso or the Stockman version of a standpipe. I have a 1-inch bulkhead so I used the suggested dimension for the Stockman standpipe. But, I really don't have enough room for a 2 inch PVC union fitting. I think I can get a 1 1/4 inch PVC union in there, maybe even a 1 1/2 inch union. Has anyone else tried reducing the Union and have the standpipe still work?
:?:

I'll take any suggestions since my tank is in my family room and the noise is driving everyone else crazy.

my overflow came with a sponge that fits around the drain, and a heavy duty straw inserted into the drain that burps the line so it doesn't sound like someone's hurling all the time.

Dunno if you could rig something like that up, but it might be worth looking into.

If you look under http://www.dursostandpipes.com/ > "Popular Modifications" > "External Overflow" would you have room to do that setup out of the side of the box? That method wouldn't require as much room inside the box as the Stockman setup and if you did it out of the side of the box (as opposed to the back of the box as shown) you wouldn't need any additional room behind the tank either (beyond what is already required for the overflow box itself)
