What is required for a good Fish Only setup

as i got myself a good bargain of a 46G AGA Bowfront and oak stand, plus an emporer filter, & a few other accessories for $100. :D

It had fresh water in it but am going to do a FOWLR tank, i was wondering how much of the equipment i would really need that i already use on my 180G reef, does it require a skimmer? i know lighting won't be as much of an issue as on my 180, but do fish/Inverts require certain levels of light for proper health?

any help appreciated

Thanx

Anton :)

For FOwLR, you only need sufficient lighting to make the fish look good (and perhaps encourage coralline algae growth over other types of algae).

I would use a skimmer, and two (maybe three) powerheads for water circulation.

remember the smaller the tank the less you have for fish. I would say that may be a little small for a FO. I have a 100 and I feel that is to small. Maybe 75 will do ya. I use a hang on filter and 2 power heads. My tank is about 8 years old.

Thanks guys

It's just a small tank to hold a couple of species i can't have in my reef, not gonna overcrowd.

i'll see if i can find a cheap HOT skimmer

Thanx

Anton :)

im thinking about doing a fowlr, but instead of using compacts do you think that i could use no but combine more bulbs to get a higher wattage or cold i just get some no high wattage bulbs and put them in the fixture the tank came with?

I think from what i've read and what hdtran said is that you only need enough light to bring out the colours of your fish or the aesthetics of the tank.
As you don't require the watt per gallon as you do for reef tanks to promote growth.

The tank came with a single NO tube which i'll probably replace with one of the cheap JEBO 50/50 lights they're selling on EBAY at the moment.

Thanks for the help guys. :)

Anton :D

Ps. whats a good HOT skimmer?
