One of my ricordia has recently detached himself off his rock. Usually when they do this it seems like its a clean brake, but this time is different. Although he still has his color, there is a trail of colorless "slime" from the point of detachment and himself. His mouth also is unusually wide open.

The tank is about 1 1/2 mo old. Chemistry is ok, water quality is ok too. Other inhabitants are 5 red leg hermits, 1 margarita snail, greenstar polyps, and other asorted ricordia. Hitchhikers: vermatid snail, and a pink crab that doesn't seem to bother anything. He hides in the rock cavities.

Should I be worried???

Hi and :welcome:

If you give us more details on your setup, water parameters, how long you've had the coral, etc. it will help to give more useful feedback.

The ricordia is not sick, but it was injuried after a attack. If protected properly, the injury will heal. Just make ssure your parameter is in good shape, and the offender removed.

Crab is notorious for these kind of things, but before you accuse anything, you really have to see it with your eyes. Just put the ricordia in a plastic cup with some rock rubbles, and that should prevent the offender from getting to it for a while. Once it got healed and attached to the rubble, you can then take it out. If something like this happen again, you may need to use a trap of some sort.... good luck.
