Is this hair algae? I have been doing water changes with ro/di, I rarely feed, because I just have janitors, I have chaeto in the sump, I run a good euroreef skimmer, and I run carbon on occation. Heres how the small patch looked when I first got the rock in the tank (I didn't notice it at first - it's behind the snail in the background):

And... heres how it looks now:

=( It looks like it's been growing... I have had the rock in the tank since late July.

Thanks for any info/help.

Is that spongy stuff gonna keep spreading and spreading? I don't want it to grow everywhere! :) Anyone else seen this in their tank?

Thanks

IMO sponge growth is a good sign. It's pretty common in a healthy tank and will generally develop under overhangs, in overflows, etc. (basically areas of low light). Whenever it's gotten to be a bit much in one of my tanks I just pull a chunk out and give it away or throw it out.

Are there several varieties of sponge?

If I recall there are aprox. 5350 classified species of marine (Porifera) sponges.
