Hi everybody,

I've got a number of Hagen 802 power heads which work fine. Hower the suckers which attach the units to the glass do not 'suck'. When I try to position the power head they slowly slide downwards.

Is there any special trick to making suckers suck ?

Thanks in advance
Paul

yeah ive got the same proplem here. This is going to sound odd but trust me. when placing the suckers fill them up with as much air as possible. the further down you slide the pump the more water pressure is placed on the suckers, this is properbly why they fall. when the pump is near the designated area where it will remain try to force the pump onto the glass. if you look at the suckers from behind youill notice that the air bubble expands. When this happens more suction is created and it should keep the pump in place.
... just remember not to push to hard

If you have a sandbed in your tank I strongly recommend you do NOT trust suction cups alone to hold your powerheads in place. There's a good chance that eventually one is going to fall into the sandbed and you're going to come home to a mess. Many people secure them using some type of mounting bracket, zip ties, etc.

I agree, though with mine i have the hangers that hang over the side of the tank, didn't yours come with them?

Yes but the top has a wooden rim which stops the hangers being used :(

Some people have put some silicone on the suction cups. I don't know how they can remove them to clean them once in a while.

FYI Ricky, if you look on some powerheads the sucker attaches to the powerhead by that a little "button" on the back of the cup that gets pusheds through the bracket.

If you were to silicone the cup to the glass, you can still remove the powerhead from the bracket via that "button"-I am sure there is a better term for it than button .

I personally wouldn't do it but have seen it done before.

Thanks for your replies guys.

The powerheads that I have slide into the bracket which is 'sucked' onto the glass, so putting silicon on would not be a problem when I wanted to remove them.

One final question :) Can silicon be applied under water ? I think not and maybe the fumes dispersed if I did this would be a problem ?

Cheers,
Paul

Personally I would not use the silicone. If I couldn't get a hang-on bracket, I would probably just use a plastic tie strap or something similar as a "safety" line to prevent the powerhead from falling into the sandbed if the suction cups fail. JMO...
