Did this come as a complete purchased system? Also try to explain what you want to accomplish in more detail. I know it seems like it is easy to ramble on but the more detail the better.
Good reefing
Yes, it is not unusual (watch the double & triple negatives here ) to have a larger downflow pipe than return, as the downflow is gravity fed (head is just the distance from tank to floor), while the return is positively pumped.
finally got the 75 gallon running...after 3 disgruntling hours trying to fit pvcs in the wrong hole...tuh! i finally got it to work...no leaks..with some help of plumbers glue and a saw!
ok heres my question...someone said to remove the bio-balls...what about the sponge,floss...should i take them off too?
description of the skimmer.....
its just a cylindrical tube with a collector on top..the collector has a lttle hole that you have to connect a airline tube and attache it to a waste bottle(a 2 litter coke bottle)
now..when i turned on the pump and its outlet is pointed towards insode the tube....it began swirlin inside line a whirpool and i guess this will make the waste go up to the colector? the pump also has a air intake hose that needed t be attach so theres more bubbles...does that sound right?
You'll want to remove the floss too, or plan on cleaning it frequently.
Sounds like you've got the idea with the skimmer - the bubbles will rise to the top and form a foam (the organics "stick" to the bubbles) that eventually ends up in the collection cup.
That's how the new reef-ready AGA tanks are coming through - called "Megaflow". Not really sure why they named it that because their overall capacity is rated at 600 GPH each which I believe is about the same as the old style...
