Where can I find a good quality skimmer for a 30 gallon tank, must be an intank or overhang, since i don't have a sump. Is there any DIY projects for a small skimmer?

First off welcome to Reefs.org

Second define your definition of cheap?

I can recommend the the Bak Pak 2R and the Aqua C remora.. both under 200 dollars..sounds expensive but any cheaper than these, your results will be cheap..these two products (well only one since i use a bak pak 2r on my 20gal) i can attest for, however, i doubt you'll find too many negative responces to either of the two aforementioned skimmers...both are quality and if im not mistake the Aqua C will out perform the Bak Pak, but the Bak Pak is cheaper and does an outstanding job

I can also recommend the CPR BakPak hang-on skimmers. I had one on my 55 gallon tank for four years. The tank started off Fish Only With a small amoun of Live Rock, and after a year I took the plung to "reef". The BakPack was the only filtration I added. No chemical, and no other mechanical. My tank was healthy and the upkeep on the skimmer was easy.

It runs with a Rio pump, which I did have to replace at one point. But it's a standard part, easy to obtain.

I have never had a skimmer and have no problems. I guess it doesn't hurt, for a 30 though I wouldn't

Ditto one the CPR, also they are using the MaxiJets on them now. If not you can get the kit on their site to change over a regular MaxiJet(as I did), Rio's just scared me after reading neg. about them.
