Hey,

I hooked up my new Remora with MJ1200 pump to my 37 gallon tank a few days ago. At this point it just looks like boiling water in the tube leading up to the cup... is this normal? I guess this is going through the "break in" period the instructions refere to0? Anyone had one of these nifty little skimmers? How long before it become effective? (producing nice froth).

Just currious about my new gadget.

Thanks,
B.

Sounds normal. Mine broke in pretty quick-took only a week. Although my old ev120 took 3weeks to break in, which is also normal. The Remora's producing a dry thick sludge now. Depends on some other factors as well-bioload, feeding etc. Sounds like your setup is the same as mine-37 gallon oceanic. 24long*18high model.

close to the same setup. I'm 12 deep.. 30 across... and about 22 high. Its an eclipse tank that I've removed the origional hood from.

Thanks for the reply on the remora.

Have a great day.

AquaC's sometimes seem to take a little while to break in compared to some others but once they do they work great! a good soak in warm water when one first gets it helps.

Add a few drops of ummm.....Calcium Carbonate??
Hmm...don't do that...I'll look it up first..
There is *something* that you can add a few drops to the collection cup that will make it not smell.....I'll dig out my fish mags tonite and see what it was.

COuld possibly be that your cup is to low. My remora is all the way down and I get crap in there.

Your skimmer is new so give it time to break in properly.

I think I may need to replace the maxi jet 12 on mine I think it sucked to much air and lost alot of its power.

Ok.....take the skimmer off the tank...wash it with hot water and vinegar. This will remove a film that maybe hindering your skimmer to "act right". Reread the instructions given with your skimmer and follow them exactly. Make whatever adjustments that may be needed. Make sure your tanks whater level is appropriate for your skimmer. Don't be afraid to experiment. Have Fun!
