If you have live rock in the tank, and practically everybody does, you don't need shrimp or anything.

i put a raw shrimp into my empty tank for about a week before my liverock arrived just to get the cycle going. not sure what fron shrimp mix is, but any dead meat should produce the ammonia your nitrifying bacteria need to get going. I agree though, that if you have LR already it's probably not necessary.

i was use a block of frozen shrimp from hikari..and it started my cycle...my Amonia peaked at .50..nitrites 1.+

everything is good now :) my live rocks are starting to come alive as well...

anyways..im planning to add more cured rocks this weekend..im assuming that it will be ok for me to add it straight to the tank?

As long as they are fully cured, just add them very slowly (ex: 1 rock every other week) in case of any die-off would be my recommendation.
