I have been looking for fish for my 30gal FO that I'm going to set up in a few months.
Only looking to have two to three fish and maybe one invert I have been searching liveaquaria.com and it looks like most fish need a 70 t0 100 gal tank I'm looking for more easy pets to keep to start out with I like triggers, tangs, Butterfly fish could I get away with any of the three in a 30gal like I said I'm only looking for two or three fish it may be one trigger and one tang or one trigger and two clowns I'm so confused, I had a 55 gal at one time with a tight budget now I have a 30gal still a tight budget but a little more flexibility I'm going to run one 96watt PC and a Wet dry filter for a 75 gal filter is on order and should arrive in two days and the light I already own

Flame Angel or similiar
Anthias
Royal Gramma ??? good combination maybe

or maybe

Wrasse of some sort
Bangaii Cardinal
Basslet of some sort

I have never owned any of these but i think these maybe good canidates, peacewise and viewing time wise? maybe some of the other members will agree or disagree?

PS Triggers and Tangs and large angels are out of the question in such a small tank..I keep nano tanks the reason i havent owned any of the above fish i mentioned...

Purple pseudochromis, pygmy angle, and something for the bottom, lawnmower blenny (very amusing to watch, not bright in color though).

... just my 2 cents. :)

As mentioned above, triggers, butterflyfish, and the larger angels are not fish you can keep in a 30 gallon tank long term.

FWIW, I agree with the suggestions above - there are many colorful fish that would be fine in a tank that size. Dwarf angels, clownfish, some wrasses, dottybacks, grammas, blennies, gobies, etc...

Don't forget about damsels. There are a few varieties that aren't as agressive as others, and are quite colorful. Plus, they are fairly cheap... also don't discount chromis fish (Normally blue and green) all these suggestions are VERY affordable too :)

If budget does allow ... you may consider doing FOWLR..(live rock that is). That way you can get rid of any biowheels and so forth you have.. plus it looks cool :)

Oh well what I see my trigger is out of the question, even If thats all I have in the tank, I can live with that until I get a larger tank.
