Trying my luck at growing a soft leather coral in my 75 gallon tank. Have 2 10K MH lights. I acclimated the coral as gently and as long as typically stated in every book I've read. It was put in a week ago, and has gone from a nice standing posture to being limp and bent over. I placed the coral in an area with medium flow and lower lighting at the bottom of my tank. Any ideas or tricks to perk up the coral? Its posture is not changing with light exposure. On a good note the tips of the coral are not dying and falling off.

Just let it be for a while. Leathers deflate and inflate from time to time. Mine deflated every night and reinflated over the first couple of yhours the lights came on.

I added a toadstool leather to my tank a short time ago. Mine deflated as well, and much of what I read stated that the behavior was quite normal. It will look almost dead, even shed, but then recover.

However, mine continued to degenerate, but I think there are other problems going on that could have affected my experience.

I just got one too a few weeks ago. Didn't deflate for more than about 2-3 hours. Seems to be okay now.

I'm usually 8/2 to 8/3. I use Kent Pro-Buffer for Alk and regulate the PH. Water temp is fairly constant at 79-80deg.
