I've had my 29 gal tank set up with about 40lbs of live rock for over a year. The past year I have had a huge amount of little white fan worms with a red feather growing all over my LR. I recently opened up my filter after about 4-5 months and noticed there is a TON of these little white fan worms in my foam filters, on the walls of the filter, in the baskets..etc. What should I do about this? I wanted to remove trapped sediment in the foam filters, but I don't want to kill all those little guys because I assume they are helping clean my tank. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

You can't really clean the filter without harming them, even if you're really careful. But the good news is they multiply like rabbits and will repopulate in very little time.

So are they something good to have?...... not that I really have a choice.

Ya, they're not bad ;) They do a fine job at filter feeding the water that passes through them.
