Kind of. Some leathers are kind of toxic to SPS. Zoas, mushroons and LPS sting SPS. Things like xenia and green star polyps can choke SPS. If you plane carfully you can make it work.

Lots of folks do it. You just have to be careful about placement and do your homework about the specific species you are interested in.

I agree with the comments above. Long-term, certain mixes can be difficult. For example, many long-term reefers have regretted the decision to have mushrooms and SPS in the same tank...;)

I do it. Generally I always run carbon and a polyfilter to deal with any chemical warfare issues, and I stay on top of 'clipping' stuff back.

I agree with mushroom corals there are in pest proportions in my tank, they sting lobos badly and have lost a couple because of that. Other than that I have some softies in with my hard corals.
