:? I am setting up a new55 acrylic Sear Clear reef tank, with a built in skimmer box.I am using a Aquac Remora skimmer with a maxi jet 1200 pump, and 2 hagen fluarl#70 power heads. I have 8in of live sand for base and 60lbs of live rock uncured. I need to know what would be the best lighting for this tank. It will house only coarls an inverts. thank you lobo42a

Over the last 6 months I've gone through the process of setting up my first reef tank. My opinion is that you should go ahead with MH lighting if you can afford it. I went through NO, PC, and no MH (which I am very happy with). There are some very nice pendants out there, which help with the heat problem. Check into the Aqua Medic name... they have an Ocean Light.. 250w.. what I have.. and one bigger that I can't remember the name of.

If you are keepin' corals and inverts you will also need enough blue spec. to keep them happy and looking nice. Unless you suppliment the MH with PC actinic or somthing, I would recommend a 20K.

Just my opinions,

Hope they help :)

Hi and welcome Lobo!

You might want to get more specific as to which type of corals you want to keep as different species have different requirements. Which ever coral is your "must have" species sets the standard for the rest in terms of care.
