No but it will limit what you can keep...72W over a 20H is actually weak if you want to keep any LPS or SPS corals..

The 72w would be if I bought the nano cube, not the 20h. How would the 96w on the 20h be vs. the 72w on the nano cube is my question.

Go with a HQI Halide pendant dude, you wont regret it.

There is no way that I can drop $279 on a light.

You will probably spend that much going through bulbs in a PC. A tall 20 gallon is going to be a ***** to light because of its depth. Youll have to get some relatively high wattage PC's to get the light to the bottom. I know I could have saved alot of money by buying two of those pendants to start out with instead of going the "cheaper" PC route like I did. In all seriousness though, I cant afford it either. I need two of them myself. Just trying to live my life through you buddy ;)

It depends on what creatures you want to keep. An Anemone cannot be kept under compacts.

IMO, I wouldn't go with the nano cube. My LFS owner has one on display and the tight fitting lid is a pain for temp control. She's always having to leave the lid up. More often "pre-packaged" setups contain a bunch of crap and are a waist of money. I'm a student also and understand that you want the most bang for your buck. However, this isn't stamp collecting; this is an expensive hobby that takes dedication and capital. I "couldn't afford it" either and bought a 36" PC system from Coralife. It's only five months old and I've realized that I should have gone MH in the beginning. I'm not satisfied just keeping fish and soft corals, and that's why I broke down and bought two of the lights that Tackett has linked for ya.

You'll hear people whine and moan about how they wish they had done it right the first time again and again. Think about what you want out of this experience and plan accordingly.

Can you get a pic of it or a link (Perhaps from an online dealer that carries the one you got?)

I understand that this will limit what I will be able to keep, but I'm not prepared to keep SPS or anemones (even though my LFS told me I could keep some anemones(they keep thiers under relatively weak light)). This is just my baby step into the hobby. Once I am out of college and have a real job then I will see what I will be able to do 8O
