Test waterchange water before adding to tank ?

Just wondering if anybody out there does this- I use Tropic Marin, 6 Gal nano- I change 1/2 gallon a week. Everything in the tank is low Cal,mag,strontium, ph, . Can't believe the tank is using all that up so quick- Maybe test waterchange water First ?

Yeah, you can't draw much of a conclusion without testing your water before a change to establish a benchmark...

Yea alwas test! Better than testing later trying to figure out why all your corals are shriveled up

maybe you are not doing a big enough water change to bring the para. back up

I was told by The LFS that with my tank only being about 4 gals (of water) That a gallon a week change is too much...... (25%) ???? so I figure 1/2 gal would be ok.

A gallon (25%) is fine. Just be sure to mix vigerously as you slowly add salt to the water. Any other way will result in less than optimal water.

I typicall test the first batch of saltwater from a bucket. It only takes a minute and it has saved me a couple of times I believe. It's easier to take an almost full bucket of salt back as defective than to bring back an empty bucket saying it wasn't right, give me another.

most stores recommend 10%, most people do 20% water change, like guy said 25% is good and will assits you in bringing down unwanted things and bringing up the good things you need :wink:
