My girlfriend needs a new filter for her tank, so I figured i'd give her my Millenium 2000 which I was just using for "that much more" in the first place. I dont like it much anyways. I thought my parasite plague was awful, but I guess it came at a good time, so now I can redo my filtration like I want. But now i have a few options. I thought about replacing the Millenium with an Emperor 280, but then I got to thinking whether the mechanical was all that important, and if I should just buy a Bio-Wheel Pro 30 add on for my HOT Mag. Or...should keep the Mag seperate and buy a whole Bio Wheel Pro 60 w/ the appropirate powerhead to run it? Ofcourse my filter pad in the Millenium does get nasty awful quick, so the extra mechanical might be useful. So basically my question is Emperor, Bio Wheel off of Mag, or seperate Bio wheel? Thanks for the help!

Is this filter for a reef tank? Do you have any live rock and/or live sand in the tank? If so, personally I'd go with a protein skimmer instead.

Also, if you had a parasite problem in your system while using that filter, I wouldn't give it to someone else without doing some serious cleaning/disinfection first.

It is a FOWLR, about 30 lbs i think. plus i have 60lbs of Natural Ocean live sand. I actually have a Red Sea Prizm skimmer but i hate it and it never works, so do you just recomend leavin the mag and skimmer and not use anything else? And ofcourse I was gonna do some major disenfecting. dont wanna make the girlfriend mad at me cause i gave her ich lol

How big is this tank? Unless it's a large tank and/or you plan on having a very heavy bioload, it sounds like you've got enough live rock and live sand for filtration purposes. I would save your money and get a good skimmer instead of any more hang-on filters. The rock/sand + a good skimmer will provide excellent filtration.

The Magnum would be handy to keep around for periodically running carbon. You can also use it to remove detritus by running it while you "storm" the rockwork with a powerhead or turkey baster (then pull it off and clean it out). Personally I would only use it for these periodic things and would not bother running it full time unless you're going to clean it weekly.

I have the Remora Aqua C and it pulls tons of stuff out daily. So much so that I bought the Auto Waste Collector they sell. I also run an Ehiem canister which keeps the water pretty clear along with the LR and LS

Good luck

With a lighter to average bioload I think the Remora would be a good choice. If you're going to have a heavy bioload, I'd prefer something even larger like the Remora Pro. If you're on a tight budget, check around for used stuff or if you're handy consider DIY.
