Oy, what did she do?! And, sorry she did it!

It is a personal decision, but I prefer glass for show tanks

So you think glass would be better ha. It's that the foot print is just smaller. So when I do this do you think my fish, COral and LR will be ok if save most of the water and sand.

I like glass for a show tank because there is minimal distortion.

Hmmm, the scratch hurts, eh? Hope your daughter aren't being grounded with no mall shopping for the rest of her life......

Now that you know how easily acrylic tanks gets scratched, you are still debating which one to get????

What about a 90g RR AGA...isn't that about $850, as well?

I just went to the LFS up here in Cheeseland and they appear to be having a sale on 90 AGAs (although NOT RR)...tank, stand and top for $400.

I would go with glass, cheaper, less distortion, sturdier, wont scratch as easily, easier to clean.

The only bad things about glass that I can think of is:
freakin heavy, and the bigger tanks with thicker glass seem to have a green tint. The green tint can be remedied by buying starfire glass, but its so expensive that you might as well get acrylic. I dont think a 90 gallon is thick enough glass to cause a tint however.

Last time I looked around here (several months ago) AGA 90 Gallon RRs (tank only) were in about the $300 range. Don't forget to check out the For Sale forum here, newspapers, local clubs, etc. You might be able to get a great deal on something used in your area.

Acrylic scratches so much easier..it doesnt take much..my pico tank is acrylic and boy did it scratch easy...I prefer glass despite the weight of it..and the fact it could leak over time.

Yes, but for the most part they can be buffed out of acrylic. In glass scratches are forever. This is going to be my first perconal comparison so I'll just have to see how it goes.

Usually, when refinishing the acrylic tank, the area to be repaired has to be dried.

Something usually not possible for established tanks.

Well, your tank got scratched because of an understandable error.
You shouldn't have had a magnet cleaner in the first place on it.
Lessons in life are usually learned the hard way, and that includes the damn expensive ones.
Is it not possible to turn the tank around, leaving the scratch on the back? If it's scratched all the hell over, then you're stuck trying to get rid of it. Some doofus will want to buy it for some use anyway - maybe for breeding guppies or something, who knows?

In the meantime, I would get acrylic again, only THIS time, make damn sure that you are the only one to clean the tank using your BARE HANDS ONLY...and watch out for reef critters that could make this a dangerous prospect. I see green tint in 75s and 90s at the store. That's why I would go with acrylic anyday. Never mind the bonus of lighter and not leaking.

I guess my thing is that I'd get glass unless i could find a REALLY COOL shaped acrylic one or somthing. There is a cool one out that has a big wave in it! :)
