I am thinking of taking out all filter media in back chambers of my 6 gal nano and putting only live rock and a piece of pad on top of live rock in chamber #1- my question is does the live rock die when in the chambers and only become "surface area" for bio? Does this idea sound like a good idea?

If the live rock is in the dark when it is in the chamber, some of the life you see on the surface will die off, it will not be as pretty, but it will still function as live rock.
Does this idea sound like a good idea?

If the rock is fully submerged, and can have water flow all around it, I think it is a fine idea.

Thanks, Laura- I put it in,The benefits are :when you feed cyclopzeeze it is ok to turn on the pump because it just blows it back into the tank and nothing is wasted...then I put the pad back on top of the live rock in chamber 1 to filter untill next feeding.
