Best Marine Filtration !

From a research I have made recently I 've found that the most used Filtration by People is the ' Live Rock / Live Sand and Skimmer ' Method.. No wet/dry, no canister filter, no Bio-balls ecc.

I want to ask something.. Can I do the same Filtration but instead of live rock I do Dead Rock, because here in my country Malta, pet stores didn't sell yet 'Live Rock'... ?

Pourous aragonite rock will provide a habitat for the bacteria required to convert ammonia to Nitrate. That's all it can do for you though. In order to process detritus and other particulate matter you will need worms and other critters that are present in live rock. To process Nitrate to Nitrogen gas you will also need the critters that come with live rock. As you accumulate corals some of these critters may hitchhike on the rock the coral is attached to. Over time the rock may become live.

A good skimmer will help with some of this but you will probably need some other type of nutrient export.

The bottom line is that is will work, just not as well.
