Can you rig some sort of overflow container...such as an empty milk carton? Keeping the skimmer on would be ideal.

How are you feeding the fish while you are away? If someone is feeding them, could they possibly empty it?

Have a great time in Hawaii!!

Most skimmer has the drain line assembly. Run the drain line to a big bucket. Make sure the lid to the bucket/milk carton are somewhat closed but not tightly.

Too tight, back pressure will build and skimmate won't flow down,
Too loose, your house will stink pretty bad after a week.

Tell you want, I'll save you the trouble, just mail me you ticket and I'll go in your place. After all, it's the least I can do ;)

You can stop the stinky-ness to a point by putting a cup of Kalkwasser in the bottom of the larger overflow container. It works well as it makes the solution too alkaline for good el stinko bacteria growth. I put a lil bit in my skimmer cup every time I clean it and it doesn't stink *too* much.
