I would think it would depend on the hermit . I am thinking of my LFS who has a red hermit that has a shell the size of a baseball. That monster looks like it would eat anything.

IME...I have a ton of the small red and blue legged crabs, and two large electric blues in my big tank and still have tons 'o' pods.

what can I do to see the pods? I think I see them but not for sure. I do know they are all over my sump/fuge, but not sure how many make it to the main tank.

pick up some powerful reading glasses from the drug store and stare at your rocks:) You'll see 'um.. you'll look like a nut, but you'll see 'um. They also scatter from strong light, so you may try a flashlight at night.
