I am just starting to set up a fish only tank. It holds 55gal of water, I have a powerhead driven skimmer, jebo 838 external biological filter, heater and fluro lighting. I have about 3 inches of coral sand as my substrate material and also bleached coral placed in the bottom of the tank. My question is will I also need to place live rock in the tank or is this filtration adequate.

I'm not familiar with the Jebo 838...but I will say that the biological filtration of LR is tough to beat.

Sorry I couldn't be more help!

I would go LR although it isnt necessary..but the biological filtration of the LR will definetely benefit you and your inhabitants...

My tank is only 3 months old, and I have a 100 gallon with 15%LR. From what I read and discussed, LR ends up being cheaper, if you count the headaches and dead fish.

I used biospira and that didn't help at all. I have since set up my 29gallon with 30lbs live rock and 40lbs live sand and have had fish in it for quite some time now with no deaths...
