Want to add a cleaner shrimp...need help.

I have a green chromis and a yellowtail blue damsel. Will the damsell mess with the shrimp at all? Also I seem to be getting alot of green algae and that stringy black stuff...anything I can do???

How big a tank is it? If you have algae, you may have excess nutrients. You need to post more information about your setup, maintenance, and testing to get help with the algae problem.

As to a cleaner shrimp, I have kept them with damsels without any problem. Most (but not all) fish accord cleaners special treatment because of their role on the reef. If the tank is too small, though, anything can happen.

I have a 29Gallon tank with 30lbs of LR and 40lbs of live sand. I have 2 powerheads with a CPR bakpak2r skimmer, corallife powercompact 130 watts. I've been keeping the lights on for 8 hours a day. I also have an emporer 280 filter.

Unlikely the damsels will pick on the cleaner shrimp.

<-- had 3 damsels, a domino and 2 yellowtails with a damsels to get my 37 g reef going.. had a cleaner in there... they all got along just fine.

I'd up your water changes with RODI for about a month or so to rid yourself of the algae.

I would agree with an aggressive program of water changes. On a 29 gallon, it is a cheap way to lower nutrients. If it helps, you may want to look at upgrading your skimmer or adding a refugium.

I too had 2 yellow-tails w/peppermint shrimp in there. No probs, xcept trying to cacth the damsels after the cylce was done. They're :evil: Although, they we-re fun to watch while they were breeding/laying eggs. They'd attack my hand anytime I had to go in there... lol

upgrade the skimmer? whats wrong the the cpr one???
