We have a 175-gallon aquarium with a black background. It seems to be painted on the outside surface of the tank. We want to remove this, so that we can see through the tank (we want to place it between our living room and dining room, so that it may be viewed from either room). However, we do not want to damage the glass or burn it with chemicals. Does anyone know of a way to safely "erase" the background? Advice is appreciated. :)

I've taken the paint off of the back of a tank using a razor blade. It comes off very easily.

Is it glass or acrylic? If it's glass then a razor blade and a little rubbing alcohol should work fine. Otherwise I'm at a loss. If it's acrylic it may be that the back pannel IS black or the back pannel was painted black with a paint that will bond. No amount of scraping with a blade will remove it without scaring the tank.
