Its worked well for a relatively small tank 29gallon. It says up to 100 gallons but I'm not sure...I had a seaclone and it was terrible

On a budget is in the $200 range, which means Remora/Remora Pro or Turbofloater. If you want a decent one. Again need more info.

With out knowing the tank size it would be hard to suggest anything.

I think we should start getting some kick backs from Aqua C, don't you Chris?

Whats the difference between the Remora and the bakpak2r? should I upgrade to the Remora if I have a bakpak2r????

I would. I think the remora does a better job, is reliable, can't overflow, quiet, and simple to use.

Remora is better, imo, but a BackPak ain't bad, especially with an airstone added.

No, no need to upgrade...for your tank size the BakPak 2R is fine..Yes the Remora from what i hear is better, the BakPak definetly suits your needs..No need to invest more money with a IMO good skimmer...

to answer the posters question, If you dont have a skimmer and are looking for a HOB (hang on back) skimmer, I also agree with the Aqua C Remora or Remora Pro..If that is too much (Remora costs any where between 200-270 bucks depending on where you get it and which model) the BakPak 2R is also a good choice...I think they even make a HOB Turbofloater which is yet another option...

ok here is another skimmer question for you. I am planning on a 120-150 reef tank with DSB and LR with a sump as well. I am currently looking at Life reef and PM bullet 1. What are your thoughts. I have been out of the hobby for a few years and need a nudge back in lol. Thanks for your advice.

Both are excellent skimers, Ranger...I don't think you can wrong with either of them.

The last time I priced the Remora (not the pro model) it was 159$. IMO, for a great skimmer that will do the job nicely for a 30g tank, that's a great deal. I wouldn't recommend anything else either.

While I can understand needing to save money, the skimmer and the lights are two things you just can't really skimp on all that well. However, just about everything else in the system is fair game. Heck, for my 75, everything else came from home depot, including the sump.
