Start a new thread about your acropora, you will get more responses from people who keep them. I do not keep them myself. All I know about RTN is that it stands for "rapid tissue necrosis" which means fast "death" or a deterioration of the coral's flesh and that its causes and treatment are a topic for discussion.

Post what is happening un a new thread with "Acro RTN" or something like that in the title, describe what the coral is looking like and let's try and get some of the others who keep these corals to help you.

guara, what light do you have for the tank? What you are describing is called "bleaching" and may very well be the first stage in losing the acro.
Several things can cause bleaching: not enough light, not enough flow, temperature too high, bad water (salinity, pH, Alkalinity, Ca, nitrates, ammonia, etc.).

The light and flow sound OK as long as the acro is high enough in the tank (not more than 12" under the water surface). Something must be wrong - when did you get the acro. Also, what do you mean by "good" and "strong"? Please answer the following to have even a chance to figure out what's wrong:

- tank size
- how long was it setup?
- temperature
- salinity
- pH
- Alk
- Ca
- Ammonia
- Nitrite
- Nitrate
- Phoshpate
- flow
- lights - 2 x 250 single ended 12000K
- how long did you have the Acro?
- How big is it?
- did you aclimate it?

A picture may help as well. From what you're saying I don't think it is RTN - I had two corals RTN in my tank and it's fast. It's advancing about 5mm/h or more - so a 5 cm coral is gone in 10h or less.

Glad to hear - it may be just the shock of a new tank. Try not to touch it - just leave it alone and it will adjust to your tank.

Good luck,
M.

Mihai ,
Tank size: 250 gallons
set up: 12 months
temperature: by 26ºC
salinity: 1025
ph: 8,6
alk: normal( my test say only low, middle and high) red sea...
ca: 380ml
flow: I have three pumps with 2000l per hour,my intention to put one more.
lights: 250w doble ended 12000k
I have the acro around two months.
it is very small by 1 pol.
Did you aclimate it? no...maybe this is the problem!!!!! I just put it in the tank.
Only its tips are bleaching and dont' are advancing too fast!!!

Tank size: 250 gallons - nice :)
set up: 12 months - good!
temperature: by 26ºC - good!
salinity: 1025 - good!
ph: 8,6 - too high. Target is 8.2. 8.4 may be OK, 8.6 is too high.
alk: normal( my test say only low, middle and high) red sea...
I know, it sucks - I bought the same kit and threw it away: you need a good kit for this get Salifert, it's very good.
ca: 380ml a bit on the low side - target 400 - 450 but not a cause of major concern.
flow: I have three pumps with 2000l per hour,my intention to put one more. - good!
lights: 250w doble ended 12000k - good!
I have the acro around two months.
it is very small by 1 pol - what is that 1 pol? How long (cm?).
Did you aclimate it? no...maybe this is the problem!!!!! I just put it in the tank - actually acros are not as sensitive to aclimatization as others and if that would have been the problem you would have lost it in the first 1-2 days - two months are way after aclimatization plays any role, so don't worry is not this.
Only its tips are bleaching and dont' are advancing too fast!!!

Actually I have one acro like this where some of the tips are turning white a bit. I'm not sure why either - I suspect it has to do with the fact that my flow from the refugium (with lots of bubbles) comes directly over them. I had them white for 4-5 months now and the colony grows just fine. I'm not sure what's that and why. I'd say to take Lawdog's advice and start another thread and let people with more experience give you advice: I only had SPSs for one year, other members are in for 10 years or more. A picture really helps too!

Hi,Mihai thank you for your help, the acro has approximately 3 cm....I'm looking for more experience and it nice to be helped by reef.org people.

About the picture I don't know how to put it on line!!!!!sorry  , Today I made my TPA ( water changing) around 50l....What you think about to purchase a calcio reactor????? on the other hand I have been used just kalkwasser... the reef stuff are very expensive in Brasil and I gonna have them step by step....$$$

You're welcome - to get more help please start a new topic so people will notice it - this is an "old" thread and people don't look at it anymore.

To attach a picture first click on the "choose file" button - then browse to the picture - it has to be resized to less than 250KB; after that click on "Attach". That's it.

Regarding the reactor - you don't need to buy one - it's not a big problem. You are just fine as long as the kalkwasser can keep up with the needs of your hard corals and corraline algae. You seem to be doing fine (a bit low but not too bad) with calcium and alkalinity - there is no need for a reactor. BTW, reef stuff is expensive in US as well.

Thanks for jumping in Mihai...I don't keep any "real SPS" so I don't have anything to offer him in terms of advice.

Also guara, if you want you can send me the pictures by email if you cant get them posted yourself and I will be glad to do that for you.

Send me a "pm" private message if you want me to do that, click on the button at the bottom of this post that says PM.

Those open up at night. When they open they'll need to be target fed some mysis or cyclopeeze. Best method seems to be a clean soda bottle with the top cut off. Put it over the coral and squirt the food into the bottle.

I don't understand how to cut the top off and feed- how do you get the food to them? Do you mean cut off the bottom, then place it over the coral?? How long are yours surviving??

Dawn you cut the top of a bottle off and use it like a funnel to contain the food. You take a syringe like a turkey baster, suck up some thawed food in saltwater and put the end of the baster into the bottle neck, position it over the coral and gently blow the food onto the coral. Of course this only works if the coral is open and ready to feed.

The cut off plastic bottle keeps the food from dispersing so much into the tank. You can train your coral to open anytime, day or night by gent;y blowing the juice from frozen food across the polyps-it may take a week or two but eventually the coral will open up when it 'smells' the food in the water.

Do a search for Sun corals, there have been many posts about them.
